Energy Requirements of the Screening Sites in a COVID-19 Hub and Spoke Testing Approach

As the spread of COVID-19 increases globally, the need for more readily available testing sites with reliable energy supplies has become necessary, especially in regions where a significant portion of the population lives with limited or no access to the electrical grid.
Prepared in collaboration with the Schatz Energy Research Center and the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), the objective of this note is to provide information about the energy requirements of COVID-19 screening sites (the “spokes” in the context of a “hub and spoke” testing approach), particularly for those who are working to build testing capacity in off-grid and weak-grid areas.
