Lighting Global has just published a new market analysis report: Quality Communication: Quality assurance in Kenya’s off-grid lighting market. This study provides an in-depth examination of the pico-solar supply chain in Kenya, from wholesale distributors and traders in Nairobi to micro-finance institutions, retailers, and school campaigns in urban, peri-urban, and rural markets.
A variety of quality and performance indicators were observed in the market, including greater brand awareness, on-the-box labeling, word-of-mouth referrals, product warranties, and pay-as-you-go (PAYG) consumer financing.
In addition, several opportunities were identified for improving access to quality assurance information in the off-grid lighting market. This included engaging with legacy wholesalers in Nairobi, creating simplified product specification sheets and illustrated flip books for dissemination among distributors and retailers, and using social media to connect with retailers and end-users further down the supply chain.
